Kids, Guns and Schools
Thursday, Sept. 13th at 6:30 pm
at Alvin & Friends Restaurant
On Thursday, September 13th join us at Alvin & Friends for another in our popular Cocktails & Conversation series, this time a ripped-from-the-headline discussion about “Kids, Guns and Schools.” Our guests will be the bestselling author of Only Child, Rhiannon Navin, and Kate Way, whose debut documentary film G is for Gun recently aired on PBS.
Moderator Prof. Amy Bass from the College of New Rochelle will lead the discussion. The evening begins at 6:30 at Alvin & Friends, 14 Memorial Highway, and the cost is $50 per person (includes two glasses of wine or beer and nibbles); proceeds benefit the New Rochelle Public Library Foundation. Books will be available for sale from The Voracious Reader.
Navin’s book – which has garnered rave reviews -- tells the story of six-year-old Zach, who survives a deadly shooting in his school and finds the strength to help the adults in his life pull through their darkest hour. Way’s film documents a growing program in Ohio that is training school staff to respond to active shooter situations with guns, and follows the story of one Ohio community divided over arming its teachers.
